What Can You Do to Prepare for Severe Spring Storms in Natick Milford?

We can’t change the weather, but we can prepare ourselves. Here are eight spring storm tips to protect from severe weather.

  1. Make sure no trees or bushes hang over the roof. These could damage glass and roof shingles. Make sure to also remove all dead and broken branches. Have trees and bushes cleared away from powerlines.
  2. If your gutters are clogged water can back up into your roof. Keep drains and gutters clean and clear for proper drainage.
  3. Pick up any fallen branches and yard debris. Strong winds have the potential to blow this towards your home. Secure all loose items in your yard and bring them inside if possible.
  4. Make sure all cracks and gaps are sealed around doors with caulk. This helps prevent leaks that can lead to water damage.
  5. It is always a good idea to have an emergency kit ready. Include non-perishable foods and water bottles, important prescription and non-prescription medicines, first aid supplies, blankets, warm clothes, and personal hygiene products.
  6. Establish an outside meeting place and escape routes. Make sure to practice the plan with family members. Include your pets in the plan and they have proper tags on them.
  7. Make sure your shed, tools, and equipment are secured.
  8. Make sure that your sump pump is working properly. A sump pump that doesn’t work can contribute to flooding in your home.
